Climate Change – Carbon Emission – Cities
The multiple cities around the world are facing consequences of climate change and equally responsible for the same in one way or another way. After the Paris climate agreement, some of them have approached/adopted some new strategies. Furthermore implemented collective action to prevent Carbon Emission and prevent the vandalization: Climate Change.
45% of the world population has situated in cities all around the world. Not only that but they are the major consumer of more than half of the world’s energy. As of today, they are producing more than 65% carbon emission of the world. It’ll make a notable difference if these cities even start making even slightest changes in their attitude towards actions damaging the environment.
Here are some of the solutions which can help cities all around the world reducing Carbon Emission can implement.
Awareness & Law enforcement
This is possibly the most effective option if implicated properly. Governing bodies of these cities can bring awareness in the people or more create laws protecting the climate.
It is very significant that each citizen understands the gravity of the current scenario. The government must make people realize that continuing such inattentive behaviour will lead them & their future generations to a predicament.
Forwarding of such Awareness programs should be forward to every group of the society via adding such subjects in education courses, through advertisements, short-films. Also, corrective actions can be issued, extended, outspread in the public interest through social, religious, political leaders.
If not sufficient the law should be made against social & industrial activities exceedingly harmful to our climate.
Implement green initiatives for zero carbon emission
Industries and different commute vehicles are the major sources of carbon contents. Indeed it is time to decide now that either they are must be stopped or changed to save the climate. Likewise; give preference on using public transpiration, sharing vehicles for commute, using CNG fuel-based or electric vehicles, etc.
The same changes can be done with new technologies for those industries which are directly dumping carbon waste into the environment before neutralizing them.
Start producing/using sustainable energy resources
Energy generating resources are needed to be changed. There are various non-conventional energy sources are now available. It’s likely impossible to match conventional energy sources capable of fulfilling the need of the urban cites. But on the other hand, various institutes and universities are developing technologies that can increase the efficiency of these non-conventional energy sources.
If priority given to new sustainable, eco-friendly energy resources; they can staidly & surly replace the existing climate-corrosive resources.
Smart Urban development
The population of an urban area is increasing tremendously so does the expansion. Civic bodies must take environment-friendly elements into consideration. Like giving priority to fertile land in the expansion of the green area/ gardens/ public parks where the plantation is easy. Also, these are under protection to fulfil the deficiency of trees cut in expansion. They should adopt & promote the concept of vertical forests. Use Solar power in operations of the streetlight and other essential public services.
Development must neither demolish the natural habitat of any animal species nor impair species on the verge of extinction.
Ultimately it is upon people how they change their day-to-day routine to produce less toxic waste, less pollution, less rubbish. The vast amount of energy goes into producing life-essential products. For example, Plastic. Reducing and reusing plastic products can save a tremendous amount of energy. This energy goes into producing it as well as the pollution can be prevented with the sensible utilization of paper. As a result, thousands of trees can be saved.
The habit of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle of 7 billion people can significantly make a difference in our efforts towards saving our climate/ our planet/ our home.
