The word Hyperloop came into existence in July 2012. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla motors has introduced the Hyperloop as the fifth mode of transportation. Technically, the Hyperloop is a pod that will carry passengers or goods in enclosed tubes by utilizing maximum energy and minimum friction. Elon musk chooses the name hyperloop because this pot will travel in loops at hypersonic speed in the future. It is quite different from conventional rails technology. Initially, The boring company, owned by Elon Musk has developed the Hyperloop. But now, so many companies come into a competition like Virgin hyperloop one, Hyperloop transportation technologies (HTT), Arrivo, Hardt Hyperloop, Zeleros, Transport, and DWG hyperloop.
Hyperloop – More Than Just A Mode of Transportation
In current railway technology. The rail engines traveled in an open atmosphere where it has to face the drag force of the air. On the other hand, the hyperloop pods will travel through tubes or closed tunnels where the air pressure will lower than the atmospheric pressure. Secondly, Magnetic levitation will cancel the surface contact with rails which helps to pods for smooth running. Thus, it will reduce air friction. The estimation says that these pods will travel at a speed of over 700 miles per hour. In the future, Hyperloop will be 2 to 3 times faster than the current high-speed trains.
Hyperloop – Working Concept
The basic concept behind the development of the Hyperloop is to develop a pod or capsule which can travel through the tube either built on or underground. But to do this, the capsule or pod has to overcome the air resistance inside the tube. It is similar like aircraft which climb to high altitude to travel through the less dense air. To achieve the same atmosphere inside the tube at ground level, the air inside the tubes will be reduced by the pumps. According to Elon mask’s model, the pressure inside the tubes will be reduced up to one-sixth of the pressure on Mars.
On the other hand, the pots are designed in such a way that it can floats above the tube surface with the help of 28 air bearing skis. However, there are some other concepts too like magnetic levitation driven capsules that keep these pods above the track. Initially, these pods will get their initial velocity utilizing linear electric motors. These motors will help pods to accelerate them at every 70 miles up to high subsonic velocity. Currently, these pods can carry 28 passengers along with their luggage. In the future, this capacity will reached up to 40 passengers. These pots will about depart every 30 seconds.
Hyperloop – Advantages & Opportunities
Due to less friction contact of pod or capsules with air and surface, hyperloop can take maximum advantage of energy. It will result in faster and cheaper transportation. Intellectuals state that hyperloop technology could be cheaper than any other mode of transportation we are using in the modern world. Not only passengers but this hyperloop technology will become a boon for goods transportation too. It will transport the goods within a short time, without causing any damage. Overall, the hyperloop technologies will bring so many opportunities for transportation for the modern world.
